  • Two phase project to construct a new warehouse building.
  • Phase 1 – Started June 2019 and completed October 2019 - Construction of one third of the new building with approximate dimensions of 15,800 x 38,400.
  • Phase 2 – Started June 2022 and completed November 2022 - Construction of extension by two thirds of 30,100 x 38,400.

Scope of our work:

CambridgeHOK’s dedicated construction and civils team were selected by Filstorage, a leading UK provider of storage and display equipment, to design and build a large new warehousing facility following a tender process.

The project saw an unheated ambient storage facility built as a replacement for the company’s existing storage building, and was completed in two phases.

Works included the construction of a new drainage system, car parking, service road, pathways and soft landscaping.

The buildings were constructed on suspended foundations supported from suitably sized driven piles. The slab was designed and constructed as a ground bearing reinforced concrete slab, with a power float finish.

Cavity walls were constructed comprising an external leaf of Architectural Masonry blockwork, with internal Forticrete Fairface blocks.

A steel portal frame was constructed for both phases, and the building was cladded in composite insulated roof and wall panels with an associated rainwater system.

Windows are installed using a polyester powder coated aluminium framing system, with sealed double-glazed units and MDF window boards.

A number of sectional overhead doors and personnel doors are provided for access and the building was fully decorated internally before occupation. A new mains electric supply was also connected and the building was fitted out with power sockets, CCTV, fire alarm, lightning protection, along with internal, emergency and external lighting.

Steve Swallow, general manager at CambridgeHOK, said: “It is really pleasing to see such a high-quality final product fully constructed and ready for use as we have worked so closely with the client throughout this project to deliver a building which meets their exacting needs.

“The warehousing is particularly light, making a pleasant working environment, due to the large number of roof panels included. By establishing a solid working relationship at the start we were able to ensure we delivered a first-class facility, which our client has been delighted with.”
